This came up a year ago on my 9000 CD, and there were several opinions.
I talked to dealer mechanics, and this site as well.
The best consensus was that the exhaust would continue to heat the bearing area as before failure, but the coked oil in the bearing would no longer alow cool oil in to help dissapte the heat.
There would be increased oil pressure as well, and the risk was a melt down and the resultant rapid loss of oil out of the damaged seal or fittings. Bye bye oil pressure, so long engine.
The dealer said the last guy who tried this ran about a week, and then blew the oil. Expensive lesson.
I actually ran my car very gentle for about 100 miles, very short trips, as I asked regarding this issue. I feel lucky to still have my oil.
In addition, the dealer said the option of setting the car up to NOT need the turbo was difficult, and your'e better off just replacing the turbo.
i replaced mine myself for $650...sort of satisfying, despite cuts and bruises.
Good luck!
