I've had a group 9 APC for more than 5 years, prior to that self tweaked APC (as much as I could take it). Some will say that there is not much difference from those self tweak processes than the professionally tuned ones, but they don't take into account that the group 9 (and swedish dynamics) use what is known as the Eric P box (named after the EE that originally worked on them for Group 6 way back when). THe reversed engineered boxes have something like 8 internal changes for the Stage1.
THe biggest difference between self tweaking and the tuned boxes is the sustained boost pressure, and the more refined knock control. The fancy boxes really do not fade when hte pressure gets up there, unless it detects knock.
You can try tweaking yourself and take it from there...what your goals are etc, as the Group 9 boxes deliver a MINIMUM of 17psi sustained boost all by themself....however you will need to upgrade the fueling system, either through larger injectors or a 3.0bar regulator, or both. I think group 9 has a zero cost upgrade if you want to dchange yout Stage 1 to a stage2. Stage 2 boxes are really for engines that are tuned for 20-23 psi efficiently,,,,which means bigger turbo, exhaust (or downpipe), ignition upgrades...etc...at least to see the full benefit of the boost instead of just genereating HEAT ;-)
when tweaking, absolutly do not touch the -K- pot in the APC.
