If the needle is going to the top of the yellow, it sounds to me as though you're getting the performance you can expect. Base boost would be about halfway up the yellow. In my experience, the needle on a manual full turbo would normally reach the top of the stripy section (others report much higher readings, though). As I'm sure you know, the Aero auto has exactly the same engine as any other 2.3 full turbo automatic, with boost limited to a little under 0.8 bar. It doesn't have the bigger turbo or different software of the manual.
The dash gauges vary, and the only way you can be sure is to hook up a decent calibrated gauge, which can be done temporarily by plugging onto one of the little outlets on the back of the inlet manifold (find one sealed off with a rubber cap) and leading the vacuum hose past the edge of the acquarium and through the door seals. You can use duct tape to sit the gauge on the top of the dash. Be sure to get a gauge that will handle positive pressure as well as vacuum.
