CD player removal question

Hopefully, this one has a simple answer.

My 88 9kt has the stock Clarion radio/tape unit and separate Clarion CD player. CD player stopped working, and I wanted to remove it to send it to Clarion for repair.

I have the "radio removal tool", which works great on the radio, but for the CD player, it only clicks into player on the one side. On the other side, I can push it in as far as it will go.

I've tried all kinds of stuff to get it out, and it won't budge. Took out the bin below to push from behind, used other metal "sticks" in place of the tool, even removed the radio to see if I could get access from above.

Any tips/tricks? Thanks a ton.
