Sealing Sunroof Drain Tube-Hose Union Question...

Okay, so I've had some leaks on my headliner, which I'd recently replaced (see post not too far below this one). Beyond the typical cleaning out of the drain tubes themselves, here's what I've done to correct the problem:
-- Applied silicone sealant around the seam where the sunroof drain and drain hoses join. They were still so tighly connected that I opted NOT to pull off the hose, apply the sealant and then re-install the hose. Will this work, or should I pull off the hose and apply the sealant?
-- Applied silicone sealant around the rear hatch hinge nuts and plates. I did NOT remove the nuts, apply the sealant and then reapply the nuts. Will this work okay?
Thanks for your help! Now I simply have to put on new headliner material. Got a little over two yards of the OEM gray and two cans of headliner adhesive from my local supplier at WHOLESALE price of $32 total. That's CHEAP!
