the maximum towing weights seem to be the same as for the manual, ie. 4,000 lbs on normal roads with gradients not exceeding 10%, 2,850 lbs with steeper gradients (10-12%) and 2,200 lbs for steep gradients (12-15%). These figures apply to trailers with brakes: maximum for unbraked trailers is 1,650 lbs. Other safety advice is also given (RTFM).
However, Saab says that to tow anything over 2,200 lbs (1,000 kg) with an automatic you must fit a special air-cooled oil cooler, which can (could once?) be obtained from your friendly Saab dealer. They also suggest you select first gear on steep uphill and downhill gradients.
