Bent sway bar (anti-roll bar for you British)

Hi everybody
Shop reports bent swaybar is causing LF sway bar endlink to fail.
History is this:
I was replacing my rear lower control arm bushings with poly and had to remove the sway bar endlinks to remove the a-arms. LF sway bar endlink nylon lock nut had been impacted and mushed pretty good from some unknown road debris. Trying to remove mushed nut lead to shearing the tie rod end.
I took the car to the shop to diagnose a vibration at high speed (bad tire) and let them replace the tie rod end. Cost $125. This was a couple of months ago.
Front end seemed very loose at highway speeds. Visual inspection reveals LF tie rod separated. The rubber bushing had been pulled out of the circular part that goes around the sway bar.
Spent five weeks trying to schedule them to replace the sway bar endlink for free.
Finally today they take it and call me and say sway bar is bent and causing the problems. They managed to get the endlink back together but the bent bar is likely to cause it to bust again.
Questions:
1. Was the busted sway bar endlink the cause of the bent bar? or vice-versa?
2. Anybody bend sway bar before?
3. Recommendations on replacement bar?
4. Is replacing front swaybar something a man can do with jack stands on a crappy driveway in the ass-blistering heat of summer? (without going crazy(er))
The saga continues...
Thanks in advance,
Chris
