Turbos work less efficiently in hot, humid conditions. The air is less dense, so the turbo has to work harder to cram that air in. There are a few causes of knock, but high heat is one of them. The air coming in is hotter, so it goes into the combustion chamber hotter; that makes it more prone to knock. Since the intercooler uses that same hot air for cooling, it can pull less heat from the intake charge.
Even working perfectly, there is a noticeable difference in turbo performance between a cool, dry 40 degree day (not common in Miami) and a 90 degree humid day.
Other issues driving knock are spark plug gap and type, and if there is any carbon buildup on the pistons.
