Funny that you should ask about this part Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Specfication of APC Solenoid Valve?, KOSAAB, Wed, 16 Jun 2004 00:11:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have also tried to find an alternate source for the benefit of fellow saabnetters and/or to start a side business. The same solenoid valve is used in any 90-98 9000 2.3L full-pressure turbo, 94-98 turbo NG 900, and all 9-3 models - that's a lot of cars and it's a part that seems to fail quite regularly.
I tracked down the manufacturer of this part in Germany, and was eventually informed that they had an exclusive relationship with SAAB, i.e. they are the sole source, and in return are not allowed to sell it to anyone besides SAAB. I don't think that they were blowing me off, but one never knows - this is far from "standard business" for a large multinational manufacturing company, and dealing with small quantities might not be worth their time. Apparently, Bosch has more leverage with the manufacturers.
There should be an alternate part that will work. It's certainly not rocket science to make a three port solenoid valve with 3 ohms on each of two linked coils, and SAAB's price is outrageous. The electrical connection on an alternate part might be different, but that is easily adaptable. For now, I picked up a used valve from a wrecked 9-3 (and measured the coil resistances before I bought it). Let us know if you find something usable, it seems that you're looking in the right place.
