Yes, I primed the pump. After mounting the pump I crancked the engine (fuel pump fuse removed) untill the oil pressure light went out. The I put the fuse back in and started the engine. Oil presssure light goes out immediately every time I start the engine and stays out during idling and driving.
Regarding your question on the oil pressure: I don't have access to an oil pressure gauge. Can I use a standard oil pressure gauge for this or do I have to refer to a Saab mechanic? Where/how is the gauge connected to the engine?
When I opened up the valve cover for the second time the top of the cylinder head/cam shafts and the timing chain/sprockets were covered with oil. So there seems to be at least some oil to be transported to the top of the engine. So far I have driven a little over 1000 km (~700 miles) with the new chain. The whining sound does not seem to become louder. If the oil pressure would be really bad I guess I would have wrecked some bearings by now.....
Thanks once more for your help
Mat
