we had one of each for a while. It has more to do with vintage than anything else. We had a '92 9000S auto and a '95 9K Aero 5-speed. The '92 is now replaced by a 9-5 Aero and I still drive the 9K Aero. Our caregiver is now driving the 9000S. There are more trouble spots in the 9000S than the 9K Aero. The 9000S continues to have non-engine related little problems, A/C, power door lock, rusting exhaust and downpipe, etc..

Judging from the problems posted here, the turbo and its plumbing do not significantly add to the trouble index other than the usual BPC, hooter valve or the wastegate clip falling off.

Yes, the 9000S is a slower (comparatively speaking) car, more so in auto form. I think you will have a hard time finding a 5-speed 9000S. Maybe you want to look for something from '95 on.
