I had the same issue...> Posted by PGAero [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: reluctant exterior door handles, TomA, Tue, 29 Jun 2004 17:42:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My parents have a '92 (Same door mechanism) and after about 175K, the front doors took considerable effort to open from the outside.
My brother and I went to solving to problem by cleaning the latch posts, and latch-post-grabbers (technical enough?) with some rags and mild degreaser. We then re-applied some silicon-based lube to both items, and opened/closed the doors a few times to work it in. It made a world of difference. (You don't want to leave any surface without lubrication after you do the cleaning part...some grease may be needed to re-touch some of the accessable parts in the latch.)
Ricks suggestion about tackling the problem from the inside seems to be sound advice too. My brother and I, however, didn't find that necessary. There might be more to your troubles than I had, and therefore, maybe Ricks solution is the way to go.
Good luck, hate to see someone struggling to get IN to their 9K!
