Honda spec'd dino until their new MTF came out. It isn't synthetic.
I would NOT advocate synthetic engine oil in the trans as you stated, but I ran MT90 and Amsoil 75W90 for 150K until my trans went. gear and bearing wear were negligable, but instead it was 2nd and 3rd gear syncro that went. FWIW. These oils were designed for modern transverse boxes not unlike our own. i now use the Honda fluid, and it had been fine for many thoudsands of miles. Fluids like this were not designed for rear ends like some trans fluids, but for modern transverse boxes with bearings that call for 10W30-40 dino or GL5, so I'm not sure how this jives with the bearing test and crown gear comments of yours. GL5 oils are a no no as they have friction modifiers. these are your average synthetic gears lubes, and are not recommended for many transverse boxes with brass syncronisers.
