Budabear,
First of all do not damage your car, there is a way to do this!
I had the same thing happen to me on my 9k94cse. The strap broke while trying to pull at it (large seat). I used a stiff coat hanger wire, cut it and used about 12" of it. I bent a hook shape at the end (about .5" dia). I then practiced on the good seat by putting the hook end into the material slit that the strap norally goes into and hooked the latch a few times for practice. Then try this on the broken seat. My strap had come undone at the rivet that holds it to the mechanism, so I made one up from some other similar sized material and rivited back on the mechanism. To get to the mechanism, I removed the clips that hold the seat material in place and pulled back the seat cover material to get to the unit. The unit unscrews from the underside of the seat.
Sorry for the long post. but I hope this helps you. What ever you do, don't give up on it. You will succeed!
