I disagree with the opinions on the V6. I've owned six Saabs, two currently, and one of them is a '95CDE with the V6. The engine character is totally different and will never be mistaken for a turbo I4, but it's a sweet engine if maintained, very smooth with lots of high-end torque which makes it a great freeway cruiser. I've had no problem with the quality and have 167k miles. The tensioner was the culprit and has been superceded by a new part number which doubles the belt replacement period to 60k miles. I suspect that you don't need a new engine, but a rebuild on the heads to replace bent valves.
