The universal 4 wire sensor is still in its cradle >>>> Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Univ. Bosch O2 sensor part number?, MikeP98, Sat, 17 Jul 2004 00:04:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
as far as compatibility for different years and models.
In the olds days (3 wire sensors) it wasn't much that could wrong and you could pretty much install whatever three wire sensor you found.
The 4 wire ones are a little bit different and great care should be taken when choosing a sensor.
Some car manufacturers uses a "stepped up" ground for the sensor and if you install the wrong sensor you end up with a check engine light almost right away.
I can't advice you as to if the 15730 is wrong or not but if you end up having problems after you installed it, suspect that one to be the problem.
15730 is suppose to fit a slew of cars and years. Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Acura, Jeep, Eagle, Ford, Suzuki, Toyota. Roughly between 1990-2002 (but not all models/years are included and some state only front and other state rear position).
It is another sensor number that I have tried for the front position, 15715 and 15718. That sensor is OEM for Ford and Mazda of some years and models.
I just cut the OEM connector off and use shrink tubing butt connectors to crimp to the existing wire harness.
Since everything is new to me with each model and year, I drive the car for about an hour after the repair, studying the fuel trim values on my scanner to see if the sensor is working the way it should.
If fuel trim values start to take of in one direction triggering the C/E light I know the sensor is of wrong model.
Good luck to your experiment
