Last week my '97 CSE's speedometer stopped along with all the
resulting effects. Base boost, no cruise, and almost stalling when
coming to a stop.
I looked at it today and do not like what I found. I removed the speed
sensor and tried to turn the gear by hand. It was initially stuck, after
twisting a little, it broke loose. Gears looked fine but I replaced it
with a new one. Spun the gear with a drill and saw the speedo move,
so I knew the transducer and wiring were OK.
Reinstalled the transducer, speedo still does not work.
It must be the gear in the transmission. Maybe the stuck transducer
gear took out the speedo drive gear. It Wasn't THAT stuck, I freed it
with my fingers.
I guess this means the transmission has to come out and taken apart
to replace the gear. Sounds like $1500+ to me for a $10 gear.
Must be time for a new clutch at the same time. I guess the I shoud
consider an upgraded pressure plate. Any ideas?
