Hey Folks

I had posted last week about picking up a '91 9kt...well, I got a chance to head out to New Jersey and take a look at it. Unfortunately, they guy was unable to let me test drive it as his coworker has left. I'm now debating whether to make another 5 + hour trip to get this thing. Here's what I came up with:

Exterior and interior are near-spotless...sunroof doesn't work.
Engine-bay is extraordinarily clean...perhaps degreased? The serpentine belts seem somewhat noisy. SRS light is on. I figure this is typical.

Here's what's scaring me- started 'er up and revved the engine...a high-pitched siren'like sound started up around 2300rpm's and got more shrill as the tach climbed. No sign of boost pressure. I put the clutch in and shifted to fourth...(remaning in place of course!!!) with the clutch in, I revved up to 5000 rpm's...same sound, no boost pressure. Took it around the yard of the lot in first gear...got up to 3000rpm's- no boost, but it wasn't running like a lawn mower. Should I fear the worst and think the turbo is blown?

The guy is asking 2000...he said if the turbo is blown, he's taking it off the market. I figure I can offer him that much less the cost of replacing the turbo and make out. What do you guys think? Am I looking at significant turbo failure, or is that siren sound something else?
