Internally they are all the same, as Zeke says.

The '97s have a few minor differences that you might want to be aware of as you plan the swap.....

1. Mid year 97 Saab went to a different fuel rail for the 9000s. The fuel pressure regulator from your 95 won't fit in the '97 rail. Not a problem if the FPR in the '97 is good.

2. Mid year 97 Saab changed the engine temp sensor. As I recall, the earlier temp sensors don't fit the late '97.

Couple other points;

The automatics have a spacer that fits between the end of the crank and the flex plate. The first time I tried to put an automatic engine into a stick shift car I thought 'oh great, different cranks'. Not to worry, the spacer pops off easily.

Your 95 may have TCS. If it does, you'll need the throttle body out of the 95.

Some of the turbo plumbing, water and oil lines, are different for the Aero TD04 than the CS turbo. Easiest to sort this out before the engine goes in.

Finally, if it were mine I'd probably change the head gasket in the new engine, along with most of the cooling system components. No telling how the '97 engine has been treated. I'm admittedly a little paranoid about this stuff, but it's all so easy to change with the engine out of the car.
