Hi Folks
I'm thinking of picking up a '91 9kt this weekend. (I'm sure you've seen my concerned posts before) Anyway- and this is a bit off topic- I just wanted to vent my appreciation for the Saab 9000t.
For all of its glitches, for all of the seemingly awful nightmares I've read about on this BB for the past 6 months, I can honestly tell you I was awestruck when I opened the hood of the 9kt and gazed at the engine bay. I'd say it was one of the simplest, cleanest, and logical engine bays I've looked at in years. My current car is an '89 MX-6 Turbo. ALthough probably more reliable, it is 10 times as complex. Half the time I don't even know what I'm looking at- and no room to move around in the bonnet.
The 9000, on the other hand, reminds me of those 60-70's engine bays you could literally stand in. Not overly cramped, easy to see what runs where and what connects to what- highly pragmatic in terms of DIY fun. I could see the engine speaking to me in the near future...instructing me what to disassemble and how to do it., with the climate LED registering torque specs for all the nuts and bolts. Of course, it's been 5 days since the auto at the dealership, so I figure I must be romanticizing.
OHh, and that body style. Something about the low stance with the ground effects, the slanted headlights, the aero rims...it looks chunky, powerful, yet nimble. A real beast of a bird whose wings go, "whoooshh...psssss." Oh man...I think I'd better get some professional help before I embark on this. Are there certificed Saab counselors on board? CSC? Better if they have ASE as well, so we can talk transmissions on break.
Although I have reservations about the 9kt (a notchy shifter and a shrill banshee squeal) I'm going to go for it. It just seems that well put together.
Keep on trucking, farmers
