The 88-89 sensor has an adjustment screw to set the clearance between the toothed ring on the CV joint and the sensor. The 90-98 sensor clearance is fixed--you just mount it in the hub and the hub is machined so the clearance is correct. The new style sensor can be used on the older cars if you move the adjusting collar from the old sensor to the new sensor. Check the Townsend site. I think there is a service bulletin on this.
