You have a 92 with dual speed fan, right? Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Question for Anders...., Chad, Fri, 23 Jul 2004 06:40:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I don't have specs collected for that fan but I do know that if I jump the high speed relay to force run the fan on high speed only (not the proper way under normal running) the 30Amp fuse pops if old. If I install a fresh fuse it will hold up.
So that tells me that the initial pull for starting the fan at high speed is very close to 30 Amp.
The way it works during normal running is that the low speed kicks in first and if that is not enough the high speed comes on later on, but since the fan is already rotating in low speed it doesn't consume so much more amp to kick it up a notch to high as when I do the test from standstill up to high.
As soon as the fan rotates normally the amp draw will drop a lot.
My guess is that the fan will consume about 10 Amp at running, that is based on a couple of blower motor tests I have done where the blower motor pull about 8-10 amps depending on if new or worn.
Blower motor is kind of similar in design and resistance since it have to rotate that fan drum.
So I'm wondering, since it doesn't blow the fan fuse on your car maybe the problem is not the fan motor but something else.
Or? Could someone have bypassed the low speed resistor at some point and time so your car actually starts up at high speed from get go. I have seen that before when a shop did a Mickey Mouse repair and removed the resistor on fan shroud.
