...In fact, there's been at least 3 different pistons, that I'm aware of, that have been utilized in various years for the 9-5. Recently, there were a few posts on the performance bb of broken pistons in both the Viggen and 9-5. MapTun advise to use different pistons on both the Viggens and 9-5 for their stage 4 (>300 hp). The engines may have the same displacement, but the pistons are not the same - the distance from the crown to the first piston ring is less on the B235 than the B234. It's not certain that the reasons for these failures (predominantly, it's been w/Viggens) is due to these pistons - it could be crankcase ventilation, which has been more of a problem w/Viggens than the 9-5, and may be pushing oil into the cylinders. As little as 2% oil will lower the octane rating considerably. However, the posted pictures of these broken pistons showed cracks which seemed to emanate from the top down to that 1st ring. I haven't heard of pistons breaking on the B234 engines, but maybe it's only because there's more tuned Viggens and 9-5's.
