I did this a while ago on my '87. Key points:
- buy all the parts beforehand so you're not stuck with the car half-apart in your gharage for a week
- support the engine properly or you'll have to replace motor mounts in 3 months
- replace the (rear?) main seal (behind the flywheel) while the transmission is out - might also want to have flywheel resrfaced (if it is cracked/blue) and a new bearing installed.
- buy or borrow a clutch disc alignment tool for positioning the clutch disc. These are extraordinarily valuable - make the install job much easier
- have a friend around when taking the transmission on/off. This also makes life easier.
- are the CV boots bad? what about inner drivers? This will be easiest time to work on them.
- be sure to use locktite on reassembly and use a torque wrench. Be careful with the new slave cyliner as it is susceptible to cracking if the allen nuts are over tightened (ask me how I know)
- consider installing new master cylinder and rubber clutch line at the same time. It would be terrible for the new slave to get mucked up with rotten clutch hose and then you have to pull the slave again.
- build/buy a pressure bleeder. These make bleeding the hydraulics much easier.
good luck. pressure bleeder instructions and pdf clutch replacement instructions at site below.
