The CSE's had 200hp and Aeros had 200 or 225hp, depending on the transmission. The manual Aeros have 225 while the autos have 200. The difference comes from a larger turbo on the manuals and different engine management code that allows for higher boost pressures.
Those are the drive train differences. Others include (and I'm sure I'll forget something here...so someone can add to it, or correct me if I'm wrong)
Aeros have:
16" wheels, stiffer springs/shocks/sway bars (the car's nearly an inch lower than a CSE. Body-colored door sills and wheel well arches, different bumpers, all-black body moulding (essentially a whole different body kit for aesthetics and Aerodymaics)
The seats in an Aero are very supportive Recaro-designed works of art (All Saab seats are great, but my Aeros seats have netted more compliments from passengers than anything else in the car).
While CSE's are great cars, and are plenty fast, the Aeros are just a bit more robust in the power/grunt area, and are sportier due to the suspention differences, and the seats....wow, the seats! You can make a CSE into an Aero contender and even an Aero beater, But you can make an Aero into more than it was to start with too.
I think that some very lucky '97 CSE Aniversary editions came with Aero body pieces and wheels.
All '98 9000s came with the equivalent Aero drive train and suspension (i.e. Manuals had 225, auto:200. All had very nice 16" Aero wheels with exposed lug bolts.) '98 9000s are quite rare. The '97 Aero is a desireable car as it was the last year of the full Aero getup.
Good luck.
