I will say that I never tried Mother's Back-to-Black, but I tried several other silicone-based products, black shoe polish, etc., all of which faded after a short period of time. Some people swear by Mother's product.
The ABS plastic behind the rear wheels of my car was a light gray, looked bad. I recently used a light coat of Marhyde black bumper paint, which is the smelliest (and probably the most harmful) paint I have ever used, and it looks great. Since it's new, I can't say how long it will stay black in this application, but I used it to paint the plastic bumpers of my old Alfa Spider and it was good for a couple of years before I sold the car.
Note that before painting you must clean the panels very well with solvent or Prepsol, as all the silicone, wax or whatever buildup will not allow the paint to stick properly.
