As Ari said your 2.3L has a chain drive system, not belt. Only belt is the main accessory belt outside the engine.
Tonight as a matter of fact, I am tearing my '91 9kT apart. It has 300k on it. What you need to do first, is pull the timing chain tensioner and look at how extended it is, this will indicate chain wear. If more than 14mm extended, time for a whole bunch of time and money...(Mine is at 18mm, max is 20mm!)
Timing chain, guides, sprokets, tensioner, balance shaft chain, sprokets, guide, tensioner....going to pull head and do HG (its good now, just doing it since its apart) complete head/valve job, dropping oil pan to clean and revise oil pickup tube, poly tranny mount, waterpump, serpentine belt, belt tensioner/spring, front rotors/pads and belt pully.
Thats whats getting done starting tonight, ending Thursday evening...egh
