Recap:
Last year George Tuma posted a lament that closely mirrored my '97 9000 CSE problem (except for the "poomp")...
Geoge's post:
For several years my '96 has gone through periods of hard starting. Usually after it's been run and then sits for 15-20 minutes. It always starts eventually although sometimes it takes 3 long attempts.
When it finally starts it idles and runs fine. Sometimes months go by and it starts on the first 3 cranks.
Occasionally when it doesn't start and I let off the key I hear a 'poomp' from the engine that is likely one of the cylinders firing on the DI cleaning cycle.
Through attrition or the fact that I have lots of spares I have eliminated;
Plugs
Fuel Pump
Fuel Line Check Valves
DI Cassette
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Ignition Switch
Trionic ECU
I must be missing something, but I can't imagine what. No Check Engine light, but could I learn anything by reading the OBD?
....my mechanics were able to determine that the fuel injector was not getting a signal. They surmized that it was an itermittent fault with the crank position sensor, offered no guarentees and were honestly not entirely sure of the diagnosis.
I concurred and told them tp replace the sensor for $150 parts and $175 labor (diagnosis and repair).
So far (after 20 starts), they seem to have cured the problem.
For those needing a mechanic in the Lake County and Libertyville area of northern Illinois...try Tripower at 847-816-3222...concerned, capable and honest.
Regards,
Bill
