... if you're sick of being limited to normal round 6.5" speakers to replace your stock speakers... and want to try something different, and have some basic tools and some time on your hands... then here's something you can try!
I went and found another rear shelf for my 90 9k, and started cutting holes in it to fit a nice pair of boston acoustic 6x9 speakers.
I had a 1/2 inch drill bit to start a hole on either side of the deck, and then i had a handheld jig-saw to cut around the traces i drew on the shelf with marker...
...took me like 30 minutes and i had the cut outs done... i went SLOW to make sure i didn't mess up! It's hard to hold one of those things steady i think! ;)
so then i got a pair of standard 6x9" TRUCK ENCLOSURES... that come "pre wired" for your speakers... and i attached them to the shelf by means of 4 or 5 wood screws...
the enclosures i got already had a 6x9 cutout in the top of them, so they matched right up to my holes...
i just ran screws through the top of the shelf right into the box underneath it.... it'll never ever come off... ;)
then i screwed the speakers and speaker cover holders into the cutout areas, pretty self explainatory... and I"M DONE!
now, you've got a nice enclosed system in your car! Sounds great! Give it a try!
