Last night at 3 AM someone tried to steal my 92 9000, the one with the bad slave cylinder, which is why i left it unlocked, thinking, no one can steal it, and this way, if they really want something inside, they won't break a window...
Forgot the alarm is a deterrent.
Anyway, the ripped the *&^&# out of the underside of the dash, the tan vinyl covered piece that goes from the lefthand side of lower dash, under steering column, and then curves down along left side of radio console.
It's pretty torn up, probably too much to glue back together, and certainly, not to my standard.
They also broke the plastic underside of the steering column, the piece that wraps around the ignition.
Anyone have any experience removing and or replacing the underdash??
Is it a big enough job to inform my insurance company and risk a higher premium?
I looked at this morning, and I can't see how to take it off. It almost looks like a permanent fixture. I can find one covered screw on the left side by the door, but that seemed to be it.
Oh, and for the interested, once they got to the ignition, they were clearly beyond their expertise, so they moved onto a friend's 72 Mercedes that was parked in the driveway, and jumped that, backed it up over a curb, and probably between the starter squealing from remainng engaged, and their inexperience with how to shift the thing (you have to push the automatic shifter on the column forward to put it in a forward gear) they gave up and took off down the street between some neighbors houses, so saw my neighbor across the street. I got out a moment after, and took off down the street in my undies, but no luck.
Then CSI Miami came and fingerprinted, and told me I watch too much CSI Miami, because I was telling them what to print.
Any help, or anyone with extra parts for sale for a tan dash interior would be most appreciated,.
