If this valve is not working correctly, you could pressurise your crankcase... which is bad.
This valve is a one way valve, that allows air to be sucked through it only one way!
the air should flow AWAY from the engine, and towards the intake manifold on the tube, which is called a vacuum line.
Take the valve completely out of the car... and try to blow in one side of it.
then turn it around and try to blow through it the other way.
You should only be able to blow through it ONE WAY... if you can blow through it BOTH ways, or if you can kind of blow though it both ways... then it needs to be replaced.
If air is allowed to travel both ways because of a bad check valve, it will cause your engine to lose oil while your drive it... basically...
just make sure it works as i mentioned above...
as for the map sensor on your throttle body, you might need to replace it or the entire throttle body. The TCS systems on those cars are, tricky, to say the least...
