Konis and BGs work great together.
Konis do have a long break in period. I set mine up soft for the first few weeks and then gradually made then more stiff as the seals broke in. Once they've broken in the damping has been consistent for 70,000 miles.
Assembling the fronts is a hassle. I have a lathe, a drill press and a hydraulic press and I used all three to get the job done. A careful crafts-person can probably get by with a hacksaw, a 1/2hp drill and a copper mallet but I'd bet that makes for a very long day.
I would find a set of used 9000 front struts and get that all squared away first. Less risk the car will be apart for a week with the front struts all cut up.
Good luck
