I've driven older versions of both, and it sounds like the 9000 turbo is more for you. If you're not going to get the Quattro (one of the best things about an Audi), then forget the 90.
That being said, there are some details about the Audi to consider:
- If you got one of the rare I-5 turbos (S4 or 200), an Audi would be an excellent choice. The early 1990s S4 and '91 200 had the 222 hp turbo I-5, and it is one of the best turbo engines ever made. The peak torque kicks in at 2000 rpm and stays flat almost throughout the rev range. An S4 with this engine would be even faster than an Aero.
- A Quattro equipped 90 would handle better than the 9000. I can hear the objections coming to this comment already, but I think it's the case.
Keep in mind that both a Saab or an Audi will be relatively high maintenance. I love my 9000, but it is by no means worry free.
