...that's the simplest check you can do. Make sure that they're connected, make sure they're connected correctly (i.e. run to the correct parts), make sure they're not leaking/cracked.

From there, I'd see if the check valve (two-colored plastic disc on false firewall) is functioning. Remove the vacuum lines, NOTE WHICH WAY THE VALVE WAS CONNECTED TO THE HOSES, and then blow and suck through one of the hose openings. Should only get airflow in one direction. Airflow in both directions is a problem. Cheap to replace.

From there, I'd go to the Safety Valve on the firewall (right next to the Check Valve described above). Ander's notes above give you some good ideas. Also, you can swap out the Safety Valve on the firewall with the one mounted on the left side of the engine compartment, on top of the wheel arch, in front of the battery. (If you do this, be sure to note which vacuum hose goes where on the Valve.) This Safety Valve's mounting plate is different than the one on the firewall, but otherwise, they're the same component. This is a good way to check and see if the Safety Valve on the firewall is going or gone.

Before replacing the throttle body, have an Indie mechanic reset/clear all the TCS codes. Sometime's that's all it takes, if all the other components are okay. I'm going to jinx myself in saying I'm lucky -- '93 Aero 5 spd., still running the old part number TB.

Good luck!
