It seems that Autos have a reputation for being weak, but I have to say I've never driven anything else and NEVER had an auto issue.
1996 900 XS 2.3 (this was only two years old when I bought it and I sold it a year later for the CDE, but no issues)
1993 9000 CDE (bought for £3000 about 5 years ago, 118,000 miles on clock, never serviced aside from fluids, filters etc (but I NEVER replaced the tranny oil!)car was subject to a hit and run when parked so went to srapyard, but tranny was still fine and I drive aggressively. It had 185K miles on the clock when it died!
In fact the only auto issue I've EVER had was a Volvo 740 estate 2.4 turbo. One winter I got stuck in ice and was doing the "spin the wheels and jump up and down like an idiot" trick to get traction and I lost all drive except backwards.
I love the Saab auto box, silky smooth and as far as I'm concerned, bomb proof.
Enjoy the auto, after I converted from a manual I wonder why I ever wasted time and effort stirring a stick around!
Regards
Andy (West London)
