They are different turbos. The 88 9000t has a T3 while the 91 9000t has a smaller turbo, the T25. The turbine housing of the T3 doesn't match the exhaust manifold on the 91, and all of the other plumbing, oil and water, are different.
Can it be done? Sure, if you want to fool with it. If it is better performance you are after, there are other avenues that are more effective. If you are just looking for a cheap replacement for a blown turbo, then this is not it.
