It's hard to get better and learn the techniques. I've never been great off the line in any car and it is a real art, especially in a FWD car. I'd have been real surprised if you beat him, but you are clrealy getting close. Hats off to you!!
Now challenge him to a rolling start at 30 or 40 and going to 120 or 130. From a standing start the Bimmer has an advantage, you have a huge one from roll-on--gotta love that boost!!!.
Then get some track time where overall performance makes the difference, along with a lot of driver technique. On an autocross course (a real one not the wimpy 1st and 2nd gear stuff) or a road course the real differences come out.
This all shows how no car is necesarily ideal or perfect. But it sure is fun to take our 5 door sedans and come up against stuff that is supposedly superior.
Saabs forever!!
