Done the 9000 BB search, but can't quite find the info I need.
My compressor clutch has stopped engaging. Condensor fan IS still kicking in, however. In Atlanta, GA, one cannot afford to be without AC, and I'm in need of diagnosing and repairing this ASAP.
I've now check the following:
-- Shims. Tolerances were okay. The compressor was replaced in the last 60K miles or so. Tried removing one shim, but it still didn't kick in. Tapping the clutch with a hammer or like device didn't activate the clutch, either.
-- Relays behind glovebox. Visual inspection without dismantling the relays showed them to be clean -- no burn marks/buildup, etc.
-- Wire leads on compressor. Wiggling these did not get the compressor clutch to kick in.
-- Evaporator couldn't be frozen, since the AC hasn't been working for 24 hours. In Atlanta heat, that would mean any ice would have melted by today. System still didn't work today, though.
-- Tried resetting the ACC multiple times, to no affect.
Interestingly, as I was driving home tonight, I decided to try turning on the heat to see what would happen. Heat worked fine. Then thought I'd try the AC again -- and this time, it WORKED. So what gives?
I'm thinking the expansion valve, which a number of you have suggested can cause the compressor to stop working.
AC system was recently charged, but I don't think it was overcharged, so I can't imagine a pressure switch would be the issue.
Help!
TIA
