The rear wheels are always tough because of the considerable suspension movement.
In the old days with my smaller jack, I would either place a chunk of 4x4 between the jack plate and the car's jack point, or put some good-condition 2x12's under the jack and roll it on that. In either case ,make sure you're using good quality, un-cracked wood.
Eventually I broke down and bought a jack with a greater reach. Just be warned - don't get one that can't go LOW! Notice how low the front jack point is. Also, look for a jack with a low-profile body - even if you get the jack plate low, many jack bodies get tall, fast. You'll have a problem getting them under the front air-dam. So don't just get a SUV floor-jack and assume all is well. Or at least make sure you can return it.
