My 1990 9KT is starting to rust. The passenger side door bottom is quite bad, as is the right rear fender at the wheel well; and there are other little blooms here are there. I've gotten it sanded and repainted in the a couple of times in the past, which sometimes works but often (particularly on the wheel well) doesn't. I could replace the passenger door if I could find a good one, but that won't work for the wheel well.
Aside from the rust the car is in great shape. Everything works, and I've maintained it carefully. It's got about 130K miles on it. I like the car very much and would like to keep it going. But I don't want to make pointless or extremely expensive repairs (for example, I don't want to do a full frame-up restoration).
My guess is that there are probably quite a few others on this board (particularly in the Northeast -- I'm in the Boston area) who are in a similar situation. I'd like to ask whether anyone has good experience making reasonably economical rust repairs which stay fixed. How do you deal with this problem?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
