It might create a problem with the sending arm.
Did you buy a whole new OEM pump with the white plastic basket and everything?
Or did you take the old pump apart and only replaced the inner pump motor?
If so , maybe you didn't get the white basket back together in its proper shape.
I don't know for sure if it is possible to install the top and bottom part out of alignment but it might.
Did you see the arrow (or line) on top of the white basket? That arrow should point toward a line in the black plastic tank.
The line can be difficult to see on the 9000 model due to that it is hidden by the trunk floor.
If you are standing behind the car looking forward, the line in tank should be to the right of the pump hole, about 3 0' clock.
