That's a pretty reasonable price. Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Thanks to Ari, paul broeckx, Tue, 28 Sep 2004 14:11:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
No offense to JJ, but let's price up his approach-
The upper dogbone with bushing is $59.90. The two-piece bushing is $29.50. OK, you're into it for $89.40, heck call it $90. So you will save $20 by cutting the old one out yourself. Having done that a time or two, I can say that it's not a big job, but not a ton of fun. Probably an hours' worth of work total to do it yourself, for the $20 savings. The only 'downside' I see is the urethane mounts. I'm not a big fan of stiffening up the mounts, as I've seen an increase in vibration in some of my cars. Other folks like them, and heck, it's a good approach.
The other DIY alternatives are to buy the removal tool ($75) and two bushings ($12.90 each), for a total of $98. A few more bucks, but now you've got a tool! - you can write off part of the cost as a capital equipment expenditure. If it matters any, I just did that same job this weekend with that very same tool. The bushings came out just fine, and the new ones got jammed going in. Not only was the tool worse for wear, I ended up removing both mounts and taking them to a machine shop to get pressed in. ($40 or so)
I'll admit that I've had an amazing string of bad luck with upper mounts, and that is probably coloring my outlook. But just about any way you slice it, you're into it for right around $100. Sometimes it's better just to let it be someone else's headache.
