On the 1990 9000t, the A/C has a separate V-belt with an idler pulley underneath the compressor. The idler pulley is the most common source of noise and slop in the belt, although it could still be your compressor clutch. I have had to replace my idler pulley twice in 180,000 miles, so it is a definite suspect See if you can isolate the noise using the "garden hose stethoscope" method. (Take a length of 1" hose and put one end to your ear and move the other end around in the area of the noise.)
If you decide you have to replace the clutch, there is a special puller that screws into the shaft while another tool holds the pulley still. I don't know if a three jaw puller is the right tool for the job.
