The difference in overall diameter/circumference between 205/55/16 tires and 205/60/15 is minimal. Remember, as your tires wear, the overall diameter & circumference get smaller anyway, so one mile driven on new tires will not be exactly the same as one mile driven on tires that are worn down to the replace bars. Also, there is very small variation between two different new tires of the 'same' size. If you go to tirerack dot com, and research the spec tables of different tires, you will see a column that gives the number of revolutions per mile - they will typicall vary by up to 1% in the same size from one tire to another.
16" wheels with 205/55/16 tires will be more performance oriented and less comfort oriented than 15" wheels with 205/60/15 tires, but IMHO, the performance gain is much larger than the comfort loss. There are 3 or 4 different styles of 16" wheels that came from the factory on the 9000, and a multitude of aftermarket wheels that fit (the 9000 shares a bolt pattern with the Ford Focus, so pretty much anything that fits a Focus can fit a 9000, assuming it's 15" or more in diameter and less than 7" wide). This is kind of subjective, but I think 15" wheels look too small on the 9000, especially on CS/CSE models - I think 16" or 17" are optimal, though 16" was the biggest that came on the 9000 from the factory.
Tires in a 16" size will also be a bit more expensive than in a 15" size (depending on what you buy, figure about $15 more per tire).
Hope this helps!
