Thanks Michael for your reply several days ago regarding my occasional no-start problem that seemed to relate to the fuel system air pressure. I didn't realize the atmosperic pressure in the fuel tank is maintained through the evap canister!! Knowing what to look for I could see it by browsing the Saab EPC.
My canister solenoid has been clicking audibly occasionally, but just stopped doing that lately. Thought that was a good sign, probably not...
In the mean time I called my Saab Tech. I think their analysis is worth knowing.
After getting the situation details straight with him, he was triggered by the fact that I did not have 12v to the FP when no start ocurred. Now according to him there is nothing that can inhibit 12v from getting to the pump, except for the usual suspects such as CPS. And.. the alarm/ immobilizer box. It sits in the high current part of the FP circuit, but it is looped into that through too thin a wire (should be 2.5mm2 gauge) and a small relay. By Saab.... They have seen several times that, when the FP has to overcome higher than usual pressure differences, that this part of the circuit does not support the current required.
So it seems that this is the 'electrical part' analysis of the same problem.
They suggested to take out the immobilizer circuit of the FP supply. You would still have the started solenoid and ignition system protection left.
I'm going to do that as well.
Thanks again!!
