The radiator fan runs if the car is still hot when you shut the car off. If the weather is getting cooler where you are, that's not out of the question. That is a separate system than the climate control.
Heat and cold is controlled by a flap in the heater box (mixter flap). In one position, it pulls cabin air in over the heater core. In the other position, it uses outside air pulled over the AC condensor. In the middle, a mix of the two. That flap is controlled by a servomotor driven from the ACC.
The trouble with the ACC self-test is that it checks to see if the servo moves to where it's supposed to. It doesn't check the flap position. So if the linkage between the servo and flap are broken,you'll pass the self-test, but the flap can be anywhere.
It usually fails to hot in summer, and cold in winter. Murphy's law. You don't get heat until the car heats up.
It's simple to check. Open the hood, and remove the horizontal plastic cover at the base of the windshield. Look to the passenger side (US cars) of the blower box in the middle. You'll see a shaft coming out with an arm on it, and a stiff wire attached to the arm diving through a hole in the firewall, roughly behind the glove box. If the wire has fallen off, well, put it back on and consider it a job well done. If the wire is still attached to the arm, but you can move the wire (push-pull) it, then the wire has fallen off the motor.
Have your able assistant change the ACC temp setting from LO to Hi, and back again. You should see that stiff wire move forward and back, moving the arm, and causing the shaft going into the box to rotate.
