I have 3 9000's i have set up for towing,2-92's,a Griffin(CD),a CS,both 2.3L Turbo's Auto's,and a 88 2L Turbo,Manual. We tow Boston Whaler 15'Rages with 175 Hp Mercury Sport Jets. The boat/tralier package when loaded up may run close to 2500#,with no trailer brakes.A good fishing day will add a couple hundred pounds of fish iced upped for the home bound trip. The 5 dr wagonbacks have Official Saab Factory hitches Part #02 72 054,a super product. The Griffin 4 dr has a hitch i made with a 1" reciever.Dy'Lan products in Ayer,Ma. makes hitches for Saab's,a good product, nothing fancy.
When driving,i use the 3 second rule for space ahead and obey the speed limits. The Griffin has the Boge Nivomat (self-leveling) rear shocks and springs standard on it.They make a difference in rear height. The Automatics are the best for towing, but take a big hit in mileage compared to the standard trans. The Auto's can do 30 on highway driven sanely sans boat-with boat in tow with full cover on the boat-19 mph, without mouring cover-17mph.The manual 2L T will tow in the high 20's,but the clutch is doing the work. All will spin the tires in 1st and 2nd if the turbo used.Best to use the boost gauge as a vacume gauge to improve the milage when towing.
The car/boat package is stable, but you must use your head and not exceed the envelope it has in handling.I don't have any problems with towing the package, nor my buddy who sometimes drives. The Brakes are very important on the car,my son's has drilled rotors on his-DON'T Waste your money, all you gain is extended braking distances with more effort, and higher brake noise!!!!!Stock brakes and ventilated rotors in tip top shape is the best setup!!!!!
Hopes this helps....
