Entered the DIY realm... Posted by AMG [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I replaced the lower motor mounts with the help of Quasi & the archives. Thank you Saabnet, I've begun the DIY path :-)
A few thoughts:
I did a limit mod but wish I had been more aggressive. The engine weight really compresses the mounts a lot.
The first thing I thought when I handled the mounts was I wish I had got solid ones, the hydraulics just seem really flexy and giving. I guess that's the price for smoothness. Next time I'll try solid.
My front mount was completely trashed and seperated, the rear looked ok but got swapped anyway.
I didn't have to drop the subframe at all, car year is 1993.
It's all in having the right tools, initial cost from scratch to get under the car w/tools in hand was around $300+, but next I will do trans mount, poly control arm and rubber anti-sway bushings, and brakes......
Looking back since I got into 9K ownership, I've come from getting raked over the coals $$, to finding someone who won't rob me, to finding this place and now fixing the last few problems myself.
Thanks again everyone!
