Boy that's a tough call. You're obviously aware that the two (fossil and synthetic) should not be mixed. Can you pry any more info from the shop that has the invoice to see?
Actually, given that they have 5W-30 listed as the oil, and 10W-30 or 10W-40 is the recommended grade, you should consider a total flush and replacement to make sure you're on spec. See Quasi's write up on the matter, which is easier for you since you have a drain plug:

I think the fossil oil is fine to use for a replacement.
If you still really want to know what's in there? Get a small sample of the oil in a clean, sealable glass jar (e.g. 40 mL). You can take this to a commercial soil/water laboratory for gas chromatograph analysis and the analyst should be able to tell you it's composition (fossil vs syn). Sound odd and troublesome? I agree, I'd just do a good flush and replace the oil.
