Timing Chain broken- questions

Earlier this week, I bought a parts car (sight unseen) for a good price. I finally saw it yesterday, and found that car is in really good condition. It's a 92 non-turbo with a broken timing chain. I *have* to consider repairing the car, and I'd like to get a feel for a "worst-case" cost of repair... with the understanding that there could be additional damage.

I have been searching the board and trying to understand the timing-related components. Timing chains, balance shafts, sprocket kits--- I am a still a bit confused. (However, it does appear that swapping in a used 2.3L is not a good quick-fix because it probably would need timing chain and balance shaft inspection and repair.)

Can anyone summarize all of the parts that may need to be inspected and/or replaced?
